The Prairie Horticulture Certificate (PHC) offers practical and regionally tailored training in horticulture. It is a flexible, part-time, non-degree level program designed specifically for the Prairie Provinces. Catering to horticulture professionals and gardening enthusiasts, this certificate allows students to balance work, school, and life while completing core requirements for certification or pursuing additional courses for personal growth or professional development. Coursework and learning materials are delivered through online independent study by a consortium of western Canadian postsecondary institutions including the University of Saskatchewan, Assiniboine College (Manitoba), and Olds College of Agriculture and Technology (Alberta). The Prairie Horticulture Certificate is recognized as an additional qualification certificate for teachers, identified by municipalities for employee development, and approved as the technical training credits towards an apprenticeship in the Landscape Horticulturist trade. Classes in the PHC program are restricted to students admitted to the PHC program and cannot be used towards completion of an undergraduate degree program at the University of Saskatchewan.
